TIMELESS, GORGEOUS

FASHION IS not only about wearing what’s in but being able to express yourself through bold and beautiful designs that make you look and feel great. That’s just what designer Dacian Alexander set out to do when she started designing and making outfits in 2010. “It all started when I was frustrated from being uncertain of what I wanted to do with my life and stumbled upon my high school yearbook. My classmates and school friends mostly wrote on my passion and creativity in fashion and how I became a whole new person when I’m dressed up. At that moment, reading those comments, I felt it in my guts that designing was my destiny and became conscious of my love for it,” she explained. When Flair ventured to the sunny city of Montego Bay, it was the perfect day to show off some gorgeous outfits that were handmade by the 28-year-old who had graduated from Montego Bay Community College with an associate degree in fashion design. She has also tested her hands in the fashion segment of Magnum Kings and Queens in 2012 and 2013. Alexander is more than passionate about designing, as she explains that she is happiest when she is all dressed up. “I like feeling bold, fearless and powerful, and because I want to help other women feel the same way, I design pieces that are timeless and fabulous,” she told Flair. Dacian draws inspiration from a

number of things. From fabrics (textures and prints) and the woman’s body to her love for ’80s couture and television series such as Golden Girls, The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Her latest collection was motivated by the Little Black Dress concept. Timeless, cut simply, and moderately short and versatile.

“These little dresses can easily be transferred from day to evening wear. In these cute, chic, sleek and classy pieces, women become their happiest selves and will have them not only noticed but always remembered,” she said.

With a knack for designing, Alexander has also started an interior designing and home decor service that allows her to merge her talents and passions.
