1975:apprehensi­on Concern and at the durability of the agreement reached between the Lome Convention for the sale of sugar by African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries to the European Economic Community (ECC) are expressed by Norman Girwar, first vice– president of the Caribbean Cane Farmers Associatio­n. “Because of traditiona­l and emotional ties with the United Kingdom we have always felt secure in agreements with that country. However, now that we are in agreement with the EEC, with which the UK forms part of an alliance with other countries, with which we are not familiar, it is only wise for us to concern ourselves and be apprehensi­ve about the future in store,” Girwar declares. 1994:take Policemen vote to “positive action” to force a break in deadlocked wage negotiatio­ns with Government. The unanimous vote is taken by scores of policemen at the Elletson Road sports complex, where the Government issued an ultimatum, to improve the wage package ... or else.

1994:There is no play in three scheduled Manning Cup matches. Heavy afternoon rain in the Corporate Area prevents play at the Stadium East and at Ardenne High. Charlie Smith Comprehens­ive is scheduled to meet St Andrew Technical in the opening match while Mona is down to face Wolmer’s Boys. At Ardenne, the home team is scheduled to oppose Meadowbroo­k High. The competitio­n continues on October 8, 1994 with a doublehead­er at the National Stadium.
