THREE OF Jamaica’s elite boxers, Wray and Nephew Contender 2017 champion Sakima Mullings, another former champion, Donovan ‘Police’ Campbell, and Ramel Lewis, will be in action tonight at the Manchester High School in a six-fight ProAm card that is being promoted by Paul Patmore Promotions and Heavy Metal Gym.
Mullings will clash with Lewis in the night’s welterweight feature attraction, while Campbell will fight Fabian Tucker in a junior middleweight contest. Both fights will be over six rounds. The amateur bouts will feature several of Jamaica’s top boxers. The card is sanctioned by the Jamaica Boxing Board.
Mullings, who has an impressive 23-3 record, and is hoping to have one more major fight this year following on his Contender triumph, goes up against one of Jamaica’s most aggressive boxers, and they both promise a lot of action. Mullings said yesterday that he is confident of victory.
CONFIDENT OF VICTORY
“I do not see anyone in Jamaica beating me now,” he confided, and for him, the question is only whether he will win by knockout or on points.
Lewis, who has a 7-7 record, acknowledges that it will be a tough fight, and that he will have to be at his best to beat Mullings.
“I know that Sakima will be coming to throw a lot of heavy punches, so my defence will have to be tight, and I have prepared myself for a hard fight,” he volunteered.
Campbell, who has not fought in three years, said that the lay-off will not affect him.
“Although I have not had a fight recently, I am in great shape as I never stop training. I am fit and ready.” His opponent made his pro debut recently and lost both his fights. It will therefore be Campbell’s skill, versus Tucker’s punching power.
Among the amateurs will be boxers such as Ian Darby, Sanjay Williams, Oshane Cleary, and Patrick Sahadeo.
