FCJ’s longest serving employee

TO BE associated with an organisation since its inception and more than half of my 54 years of existence is quite an honour and one that I am extremely proud of.

I am Dexter Hunter, a security officer at Factories Corporation of Jamaica, a job I proudly executed for over 29 years.

It was in 1988 that I was called to attend an interview for the job of security officer at the offices of the Kingston Free Zone. I knew I had applied for the job with a company called Factories Corporation of Jamaica Limited, but did not know what to expect or the relationship of the organisation to the Kingston Free Zone.

NERVOUS

I was nervous, but as a young man just starting a family and being employed to an organisation where the salary was not great and the work environment was challenging, I knew I had to make a change and this interview was for me that change.

The nervousness and uncertainty disappeared during the interview when it became clear that another free zone was being established by the name of Garmex Free Zone and the operations would be similar in nature to that of the Kingston Free Zone even though management and oversight would be carried out by Factories Corporation of Jamaica, as opposed to the Port Authority of Jamaica.

The interview was a success. I was selected to join a group of persons to carry out security operations at the Garmex
