A SHOT-FILLED century from captain and wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton piloted Jamaica to a 39-run win over Guyana in the final of the second annual Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association Tri-Nation Independence Twenty20 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua at the weekend.

The big-hitting Walton struck eight sixes and nine fours during his innings, which lasted 42 balls, as Jamaica, after losing the toss, posted an impressive 206 for two off 15 overs due to rain.

Guyana, in reply, were restricted to 167 for eight off their 15 overs.

BEST SUPPORTED

Trevon Griffiths, 69 off 30 balls, and Steven Taylor, 21, best supported Walton.

All-rounder Christopher Barnwell, one for 37, and fast bowler Romario Shepherd, one for 43, led the way for Guyana with West Indies spinner Veerasammy Permaul finishing with figures of none for 44.

Guyana, in their response, were led by wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble, 63 not out, and Barnwell, who gathered 27.

This was against off-spin allrounders Oshane Walters and Peat Salmon, who claimed four for 21 and two for 35, respectively.

“It (performance) was a good one and I am happy we were able to come out with a victory,” said Jamaica coach Andrew Richardson.

“Chadwick batted beautifully and scored a fantastic 101 well supported by Trevon 69 not out. That kinda really took the game away from Guyana.”
