Generous gifts for St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital

- Carl Gilchirst Gleaner Writer

A RENOVATED and expanded male surgical ward costing $170 million courtesy of the National Health Fund was opened recently at the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital in St Ann, much to the delight of everyone.

Of tremendous significance, also, was the input of the private sector to other areas of the hospital, amounting to tens of milions of dollars which several speakers at the function recognised. Chief among them was the US$160,000 ($20M) raised by Issa Trust from the Air Supply concert earlier this year for the Paediatric Ward, which the trust, headed by Diane Pollard, has been funding for several years now.

Another significant contribution came from American Friends of Jamaica, represented at the function by executive director Caron S. Chung, who said their only objective was to serve, hence the contribution of US$139,000.

Tankweld, through CEO Chris Bicknell, donated funds, around $8 million, to purchase an ambulance which was retrofitted through contributions from Guardian Life and which was unveiled at the function.

Food For The Poor donated 50 new beds for the male surgical ward, with Mystic Mountain putting up two million dollars for the air-conditioning unit, while Sanju Chatani and family were mentioned for their contribution towards the establishment of a new parking lot at the hospital.
