Manning Cup a step down for STATHS’ White

- Livingston Scott Gleaner Writer

ST ANDREW Technical’s outstanding goalkeeper, Jaedin White, says playing in the Manning Cup is like taking a step down to play with some ‘youngsters’.

White, a former national under-17 representative, kept goal for Cavalier in the recent Super League and Premier League playoffs and was outstanding between the sticks, and now that he is back playing among his peers in the Manning Cup, he feels like he is a cut above the league.

“I play a higher level of football than this ... so it’s like taking a step down to come and play with some youngsters. All I had to do as captain was motivate my team and make sure no one lapsed in concentration,” he told The Gleaner after his team drew 0-0 with Camperdown on Wednesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the Manning Cup.

White is not worried about ever letting his team down as he feels no pressure.

“There is no pressure ... I always tell myself don’t panic in football. It’s either you have a good day or bad day. Today ( against Camperdown) wasn’t a victory, but we knew what we had to do,” he said.

St Andrew Technical face St George’s College, Holy Trinity and St Catherine in their quarter-final group and White insists that he is yet to be really tested and that he has a lot more to offer.

“I feel overwhelmed that my team has qualified. We have the quality to win this competition and we have taken one more step forward. We just want to continue after this. But for the rest of the competition, it will not be the same. You can expect much more, because I have a lot more inside to give and I will give everything for my team,” he added.
