A daddy-daughter takeover

- Krysta Anderson Gleaner Writer

RESTAURANT WEEK Ambassador, Miss Jamaica Universe 2009, and marketing director at Iberostar The Club, Carolyn Yapp, arrived at Robbie Joseph’s Seahorse Grill in Montego Bay in fine fashion with one mission: to enjoy the attraction and bask in the goodness offered on their Restaurant Week menu.

Joining her in the delightful adventure was someone she holds very close and dear to her heart – her father, Hartley Yapp. The daddy-daughter duo didn’t waste any time in settling down to a quaint family dinner for two.

For appetisers, Dad noted that the Jamaican red peas soup and the vegetable spring rolls were good. His daughter, who takes her ambassadorial role seriously, weighed in a little bit more on her smoked blue marlin in toast with herb cream with cream cheese. “It’s good. I love the flavour and the freshness of the marlin, which is, of course, what you expect from Robbie’s Seahorse Grill. The texture is nice and the taste is great. I could do with a little cream cheese and possibly add a little sweetness to give it a real pizzazz on the palate,” she shared with Food.

A lover of salads, she also tried their fresh garden variety. She described it as “no ordinary salad”, and explained that the herb rice added a nice touch and the olive added the right amount of flavour. But the surprise came with the jalapeno pepper, which kicked the taste up a notch.

By main course, Carolyn was already stuffed. But she pressed on, relishing the pleasures of chicken pesto penne, with grilled chicken in a fresh creamy pesto sauce. Dad chose an entrée

from the pork persuasion, taking his meaty euphoria to new heights with their tender and juicy grilled teriyaki pork chops served with pineapple-papaya relish. As for the divine desserts, Carolyn tapped into her sweet tooth and basked in the heavenly ganache-layered cake, while Dad took a slice of the chocolate honey cake for a sugary spin. The indoor, outdoor and semi in-between, the warm staff and amazing view completed the overall experience, so be sure to book Robbie Joseph’s Seahorse Grill for this Restaurant Week.
