Patrick unhappy with venue change

COACH OF St Catherine High, Anthony Patrick, has expressed his disappointment with the decision by ISSA to move their final Group G Manning Cup encounter against Holy Trinity High from the Spanish Town Prison Oval to Winchester Park.

Patrick told The Gleaner yesterday that ISSA should have allowed the game to go ahead in Spanish Town as Winchester Park is very close to the Holy Trinity campus.

“We are definitely upset about this because moving it from Spanish Town Prison Oval to Winchester Park, which is just a foot away from (Holy) Trinity, is not good for us,” said Patrick.

“But the powers that be made their decision and so we have to play, and so definitely we are going there to play,” he said. “We are disappointed but we can’t do anything about it, and so are going there to give it our best shot.”

The veteran coach added the ISSA’s decision has also affected his players.

“I have spoken with the captain Paul Planter and he has concerns about it, but we have discussed with the players and they understand, and I know that they will go there, give it their best shot and try, and come away with the require result,” said Patrick.

With all four teams level on points and goal difference in the group a play-off will be the first way of separation if the games today ends in draws. Many-time champions St George’s College and St Andrew Technical High are the other teams in the group.

The Gleaner was unable to contact ISSA’s competitions officer George Forbes for a comment on the reason for the change. Calls to his cell phone went straight to voicemail.
