MBU appeals to JFF for Williams help

- Kavarly Arnold Gleaner Writer

SANDRA CHRISTIE, chief operating officer and director of administration at Montego Bay United (MBU), is calling on the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to aid in the funding of former national striker Dino Williams’ groin surgery to be conducted in a matter of days.

Christie said that the club has been awaiting word regarding request made to the JFF over four months ago, but remains confident that a reply is forthcoming.

“From as far back as June, we made a request of the JFF, and we are awaiting their approval. We expect that they will, as with any member of the national team, whether present or former. We know that they always extend their assistance to the clubs, and we expect no less from them,” she said.

Christie pointed out that MBU is not looking for full funding from the JFF, but is simply asking for the governing body’s assistance. However, she told The Gleaner that the club is prepared to see the athlete through the surgery, with or without the aid of the JFF or any other sporting bodies.

KNOWN NAT’L PLAYER

“We simply ask for the assistance of the JFF, as Dino is a known player and a former national representative. The obligation for his medical attention is the club’s, and MBU is prepared to see him through this as we are responsible for our players, with or without the JFF. But certainly, we expect them to play a part, or any other organisation affiliated with sports, like the ministry,” said Christie.

Christie told The Gleaner that Williams’ injury has been a long-standing one that has prevented him from performing at his best for quite some time.

She added that she hopes things will be smooth going for their number-one striker and wishes him a speedy and successful recovery.

“This injury has been a longstanding one, somewhat recurrent, where the same area

keeps getting inflamed. We hope that when the doctor advises us that he is to go in, he will have a successful surgery and at the same time a speedy recovery so that he can come back to good form,” Christie said.
