North Street battle at Stadium East
KINGSTON COLLEGE and St George’s College will continue their North Street rivalry when the teams meet in the ISSA/FLOW Walker Cup knockout quarterfinal game at Stadium East field today, starting at 4 p.m.
The purple and white-clad KC team have been dominant in the Manning Cup with an unbeaten run to the semi-finals. St George’s College, on the other hand, have not been so impressive but are still in contention for silverware.
Reigning champions KC are highly favoured to beat St George’s College today and advance to not only Walker Cup semi-finals but also the rich FLOW Super Cup. The semifinals are set for this Saturday at a venue to be decided by the organisers.
Both schools are hunting a tenth hold on the knockout trophy.
The red-hot KC coached by Ludlow Bernard will rely on the Manning Cup’s leading goal scorer Rashawn Mackison, Omar Thompson, Trayvon Reid as well as national representatives Fabian Grant and Javain Brown to overcome a St George’s College team which has been putting the emphasis on defence this season.
While KC are the hot favourites, St George’s who are guided by master schoolboy tactician Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell cannot be written off. The St George’s team might not be as prolific as KC in front of goal, but they are a good defensive unit.
St George’s key players include Paul Young Jr, Arseno Hamilton, Cheva Denton, Akeem Robotham and Jamal Pusey.
DOUBLE-HEADER
In the first game at the venue, Jamaica College will oppose St Catherine High at 2 p.m. JC will be aiming to rebound from a 0-2 loss to KC in the Manning Cup last Saturday.
The Miguel Coley-coached team will look to star player Tyreke Magee to pull the strings from midfield. He should get support from Shaneil Thomas, captain Maliek Howell and Tevin Rochester.
St Catherine will come into the game as underdogs but coach Anthony Patrick could surprise with players such as captain Maleke Miller, top scorer Jahmarie Henry, Jevaughn Cole and Paul Planter. In the lone game at Constant Spring, Holy Trinity will face St Andrew Technical High, starting at 2:30 p.m.
The teams are evenly matched and the game could go either way.
