Where are they?
THE EDITOR, Sir: PETER BUNTING and Lisa Hanna’s silence is so deafening! Therefore, I had to do a ‘where are they?’ letter just to check if they are OK. It seems like many of us read too much into Dr Peter Phillips’ recently named shadow cabinet. Dr Phillips’ shadow cabinet was not about performance, but about internal political promotions and demotions.
Key leaders of ‘Team Renewal’ Peter Bunting and Lisa Hanna are now out of the ‘video light’. The video light is now on Damion Crawford and Fitz Jackson.
The appointment of Lisa Hanna and Peter Bunting to shadow foreign affairs and trade and the industry and commerce ministry, respectively, are masterstrokes by Dr Phillips. He ensured that Lisa Hanna received a portfolio that many will argue is a ‘quiet’ one. Also, Minister Kamina Johnson Smith doesn’t make many mistakes, so it’s going to be very difficult for Lisa Hanna to shine in her shadow. We all saw what happened when she tried to get out of the block first – she false-started with a fake news story. Bunting’s new portfolio is considered is strongest by many. The only problem with that portfolio is that it is not a ‘video light’ portfolio. Let’s see if both defy all the odds by joining Damion and Fitz in the video light regularly.
Perhaps I’m underestimating ‘Team Renewal’ here? Because one could argue that they are not in favour of how Peter Phillips ran the campaign in South East St Mary. So they are using a hands-off approach from now on. TEDDYLEE GRAY Ocho Rios, St Ann teddylee.gray@gmail.com
