At Cavalier for Reggae Boyz chance – Marsh
THURSDAY EVENING was similar to Monday evening for Cavalier Football Club as they marched to another 2-0 victory in the Red Stripe Premier League and like it was on Monday, the three little ‘big men’ were at the heart of their victory.
Chevone Marsh was Thursday’s hero with one goal and one assist with Alex Marsall netting the other. The third member of the dangerous trio, Nicholas Hamilton was also a handful for Humble Lion whose coach Lenworth Hyde must be worried about suffering a similar fate to Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey, who walked the plank after Monday’s loss to Cavalier.
Marsh netted in the 46th minute, while Marshall followed suit in the 52nd to push Cavalier a further three positions up the table to fifth on 10 points.
“First and foremost, I have to give thanks to God.
“It was a team effort and each and every individual came out and did their bit and it is a welldeserved victory. We are thankful for the three points and I am happy for the goal and the assist. It is my second of the season,” a delighted Marsh said at the end of the game.
THE BIGGER PLANS
The 23-year-old former Calabar High school player said scoring goals and aiding his team’s victories are just part of the bigger plan.
“As players we always set targets and as the captain I just want to lead my team to victory
at the end of the season. Individually I want to score approximately 20 goals. It is a pretty slow start but I am thankful that I am gradually improving day by day with the work that I am putting in,” said the player who has represented the country at every level.
Marsh, who recently completed his second year in Finland said he returned to his boyhood club to remain part of the national conversation.
“I have an extension with the Finnish club but I wanted to be back home in the eyes of the national team because I really want to be a candidate for a regular spot in the team and stuff.
“It is the off season in Finland and I intend to go back in January. Last season had its ups and downs. I started out well with four goals in the first four five games and then I picked up an injury which kept me out for about three to four months. From then it was rough coming back but I came back and finished out the season,” explained the man who is dubbed Messi in recognition of his football wizardry more common with the Argentine.
Never one to lose sight of what is important, Marsh said what is most important to him now, is getting the job done for Cavalier.
“Right now my focus is with Cavalier where I have been since I was a little child. I was practically raised here. This is the club that gave me the opportunity to impress the national coaching staff.
“I got a taste of the national team recently when I made my debut against Saudi Arabia. It was really a long wait. I played about 30 minutes and based on the feedback I got from family, friends and even the coaching staff I did well.
“I am hungry and am waiting for the opportunity and when that opportunity presents itself I am just going to take it with both hands,” the little magician promised.
