Songs of Freedom box set makes top 50
THERE TEND to be very few surprises about the iTunes ranking of top reggae albums, as the digital platform’s users who have a taste for Jamaican popular music are nothing if not consistent. Positions may change, a new release may make an impact but, chances are, balance is quickly restored and the same old faces juggle around chart positions as the list is posted throughout the day.
One thing is sure – it will be filled with songs from Bob Marley and his sons.
And so it goes for the chart up to late Thursday, except that this time around, there is a Bob Marley and the Wailers set which has not popped up in a while. The Songs of Freedom box set, from Judge Not to Redemption Song, was at No. 45.
It was not the only album between 40 and 50 to pop up on the iTunes listing at that time. Kranium’s Rumours was at No. 48, just ahead of Etana’s The Strong One.
Just over the halfway mark was Raging Fyah’s Everlasting, in position No. 52, then Christopher Martin’s Big Deal in the No. 54 slot. Vocalist, a new release by Lloyd Brown, held the No. 58 position.
An interesting looking project is Dancehall Remix Hits 2017 by DJ Daboyze. Among the songs getting the remix treatment are Gyalis Pro, Turn Me On, All The Way, Wicked and Twerk Twerk.
There were some changes further up the chart, as Soja’s Poetry in Motion, was No. 1, oving perpetual contender for, or occupant of, the top spot, Legend (Remastered) by Bob Marley and the Wailers to second. The Green’s Marching Orders was third and then came Legend (Deluxe) and Stony Hill (Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley in fourth and fifth, respectively, to close out the top quintet.
