It’s a JC, KC final!
FAVOURITES AND defending champions Kingston College (KC) secured their spot in the final of the Walker Cup Knockout competition with a 1-0 victory over St Andrew Technical High School at the National Stadium yesterday.
Renato Campbell scored the lone goal for the Purples in the ninth minute.
KC will meet defending Manning Cup champions Jamaica College (JC) in Tuesday’s final, which will also be played at the National Stadium.
Ten-man JC drubbed Calabar High 6-1 in a one-sided first semi-final after Calabar were gifted the lead courtesy of an own goal by JC’s Nathan Hunter in the second minute.
The Miguel Coley-coached JC were then led to victory by substitute Gavin Thorpe, who slammed home two goals in the 71st and 76th minutes.
Captain Maliek Howell (10th), Tyreek Magee (16th), Nathan Hunter (59th), and Norman Campbell (90th) were the other scorers for JC.
However, JC ended the game with 10 men after Delverone Simpson was sent off in the 78th minute.
While happy with the win, Coley expressed his displeasure at the early own goal.
“It is always good to be in a final, but we have some work to do, and so we have to really go back and look at the tape and show players what they should do,” said Coley.
DISAPPOINTED
“I am very disappointed that we conceded an early goal, and it is something that we have to continue talking to them about because we have to concentrate in those couple of early minutes,” he said.
“However, I am happy that we bounced back. I think we passed the ball around beautifully, and so I am happy that we were clinical in the final third,” Coley added.
Meanwhile, Holmer Morgan, a member of Calabar’s management staff, said that his team tried their best.
“We came out with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm ... but some of our main players just got flat,” said Morgan.
“However, I must say, we are a proud school and are doing well, and we will be back as we still have the FLOW Cup to look forward to,” Morgan said.
