FIVE STUDENTS at the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts were awarded bursaries by International Women Jamaica and a diplomatic couple at the British High Commission. These bursaries total J$150,000.00.

Presentations were made recently by Sheryn Hylton Parker, vice-chair of the college’s board of management and founder of International Women Jamaica, and Lyndsey Kilifin of the British High Commission.

In welcoming the gesture, principal, Dr Nicholeen DeGrasse-Johnson said that it was the aim of the management of the institution to provide ongoing assistance to students with financial challenges through such interventions.

She thanked International Women Jamaica for its collaboration with Ms Kilifin to identify the college as the recipient of the couple’s contribution.

The students who have benefited are Bridgette Birch, School of the Visual Arts; Patrice Wilson, School of Drama; Richard Gayle, School of the Visual Arts; Latoya Tingle, School of Dance; and Davia Atkinson, School of Arts Management.

“The contribution is due to the generosity of Lyndsey, who is a founding member of International Women Jamaica, and her husband, Peter Brophy, a diplomat at the British High Commission, who has just concluded his assignment to Jamaica,” said Hylton Parker.
