STATHS GK delivers on promise to teammates
I made wrongs some in the quarter-finals of the FLOW Super Cup and so I told my teammates before the penalties that I owed them.
ST ANDREW Technical High School (STATHS) goalkeeper Jeadine White turned in a brilliant all-round performance to lead his team into the semi-finals of the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup competition.
White was a focal point in his team’s exciting 4-3 penalty shootout victory over St George’s College at their play-off contest at the Constant Spring Sports Complex yesterday, after both teams had played to a 1-1 draw at full an extra time.
Romario Harding gave St George’s the lead in the 45th minute. However, substitute Nicholas Stewart netted the equaliser for STATHS in the 85th minute.
Along with White and Stewart, David Smith and Mark Chambers were the other scorers for STATHS in the penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, Paul Young Jr and Akeem Robotham were guilty of missing for St George’s in the shootout.
White, who is regarded by many as the best custodian in schoolboy football this season, saved two St George’s penalty kicks, before returning to score the winner for his team with the final kick of the shootout.
The 17-year-old White, who helped Cavalier to secure promotion to this season’s Red Stripe Premier League competition, said he was very delighted with his performance.
“I am very happy,” said White. “My performance is all based on training because I made some wrongs in the quarter-finals of the FLOW Super Cup (against St Elizabeth Technical), and so I told my teammates before the penalties that I owed them, and so I gave it to them in this game.”
“This is going to give us a lot confidence going into the semi-finals against KC (Kingston College) because once we win that game, then we are into the final, and this is our aim this season – to be into the final,” added White.
NO EXCUSES
Meanwhile, St George’s coach Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell said his team tried their best.
“It was a game of two halves because I don’t think we played well in first half, we did well in the second half, but we never got that second goal, and they scored a pretty decent one,” said Bell.
“We put out our best and we played hard, and I am not going to find any excuses because St Andrew Technical did what they had to do from the penalty spot to win the game,” Bell said.
STATHS will oppose KC in one semi-final, with Jamaica College scheduled to tackle Holy Trinity in the other semi. Both matches are scheduled for next Tuesday.
