XLCR, St Catherine in top clash

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Excelsior and St Catherine High will meet in the top-of the table Group One Urban ISSA Senior Netball match today as the penultimat­e set of matches in the Second Round get underway at St Andrew High school starting at 10:30 a.m.

All the matches today have been switched to this venue due to the inclement weather over the past few weeks and the unplayable conditions at the Leila Robinson Courts when it rains.

Today’s clash between the defending champions and St. Catherine will be very crucial as the winner looks set to top the group. Both teams are unbeaten so far in this round after picking up three wins each. In their latest matches on Tuesday at the same venue, both teams had contrastin­g wins as the Christophe­r Smart-coached Excelsior blew away Campion 41-13, while it was a close 27-25 win for the Phyllis Thompson-coached St Catherine over Camperdown.

In other matches in the Group, 2015 champions Camperdown will be hoping to bounce back with a win when they go up against Holy Trinity, while Ardenne will be looking for their first win when they meet Tivoli.

GAYNSTEAD IMPRESSIVE

Following three impressive wins so far, the Dalton Hindscoach­ed Gaynstead, who were beaten finalist a year ago look set to pick up their fourth win in a row and remain on top in Group Two.

Led by outstandin­g Goal shooter Amanda Pinkney, Goal attack Astia Brooks and Goal keeper Latanya Wilson, they have been very impressive all season and in their game on Tuesday, they easily got by Norman Manley 57-17.Today they should easily get the better of Campion, who were beaten 41-13 by The Queen’s School in their last match.
