Tributes flow to mark the death of chairman of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, J.A. Lester Spaulding
CBU – regional broadcasting stalwart
The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) yesterday offered a tribute in memory of its ‘Hall of Famer’ and regional broadcasting stalwart, J.A Lester Spaulding.
He was president of the CBU from 1987 to 1991. During his term as president, he formed a relationship with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, which led to the establishment of a television production and news exchange facility, including the CBU’s acquisition of its own domestic satellite uplink.
He also contributed to the development of the Caribbean News Agency (CANA) as a director until 2011, and nurtured the formation of the Caribbean Media Corporation, being its inaugural chairman in 2000

The American Advertising Federation Caribbean Region deeply regrets the passing of Lester Spaulding.
The legacy of J.A. Lester Spaulding looms large on the media landscape in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, earning him several accolades. During his long career, he oversaw several acquisitions and mergers while at the helm of one of the region’s largest media houses. He earned the respect and adoration of his peers by breaking barriers and maintaining standards of excellence.
ACM – He was a Caribbean media icon
The Association of Caribbean Media Workers has joined with media colleagues throughout the region in mourning the passing of Caribbean media industry leader, Lester Spaulding.
Mr Spaulding received numerous awards for his service to regional media. He was recognised by the CBU Hall of Fame and is the holder of a Caribbean Media Corporation Award of Excellence for Leadership.

The Press Association of Jamaica extends its condolences to the family and friends of the late Lester Spaulding, chairman of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group. His influence was also felt throughout the Caribbean, where he served for years in several capacities. He was widely admired for his vision and industry, and his deep interest in the future and direction of media in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
