All-the-way win for Western Warrior

WESTERN WARRIOR made every post a winning one in yesterday’s 1820-metre United Racehorse Trainers’ Association trophy feature event, beating DONTAE by a length, finishing ahead of his rival for the third consecutive race.

Lightweight jockey Wesley Henry put WESTERN WARRIOR in front from the off and paced the speedster perfectly, always two lengths ahead of FOLLOW BACK A ME, who did exactly that to the home turn.

Henry unleashed WESTERN WARRIOR in the stretch run, and the three-year-old colt stayed on strongly to beat DONTAE, who had picked up the chase, coming off the turn.

Dick Cardenas tried hard aboard DONTAE to reel in WESTERN WARRIOR, but the leader was not for catching, clocking 1:55.1 for the distance.

Trainer Donovan Plummer won three races on the 10-race card, two of which were outsiders ridden by claiming apprentice Jerome Innis – RAWALPINDI EXPRESS at 81 and NUCLEAR TRAIN at 10-1.

Plummer’s third winner was LADY EXOTIC, an 8-5 chance with Dane Nelson aboard, who had opened the card with LITTLE PRINCE at off of 5-2.

Cardenas also booted home two winners. WOODHOUSE, a 3-5 favourite, got the Panamanian off the mark before he closed his tally with PIZARRO at odds of 1-4 in the eighth.

Plummer’s two outsiders, plus 28-1 shocker MEMORY OF TS, rocked punters, forcing a $3.21million carry-over in the Pick-9 to next Saturday’s meet. MARVELLOUS MARVA (Oneil Mullings) scoring a five-lengths win in yesterday’s 10th race at Caymanas Park.
