Samuda appointed to PASO’s Ethics Commission
JAMAICA OLYMPIC Association (JOA) president, Christopher Samuda, has been appointed to the Ethics Commission of the Pan American Sport Organisation (PASO), the continental governing body under which the Pan American Games falls.
The appointment was made by president of PASO, Neven Ilic, who in April of this year was elected to the presidency at the LIV Ordinary General Assembly, held in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
The main objective of the Commission is to uphold the Panam Sports Code of Ethics, based on the values and principles stated in the Olympic Charter. It is also charged with the responsibility of considering complaints that are made with regard to the noncompliance of these principles both in sports as well as in matters pertaining to proper governance.
Commenting on his appointment, Samuda said: “To serve, and to serve, in particular on that Commission, is indeed an honour. An honour made possible by virtue of service to my country and a privilege given which I accept cognisant of the responsibilities which reside in that office.”
Samuda added: “The Caribbean and the Americas have so much to contribute to the ethos of sport governance; and closer home, if were not me it could have been any of my colleague directors of the JOA”
The Pan American Games is a major international multi-sport event and the next games will be held from July 25 to August 11, 2019, in Lima, Peru, where it is expected that 41 nations will compete in 39 sports.
