1963:farmers Nineteen cane

are honoured in recognitio­n for their long and distinguis­hed service to the cane farming industry of the island. The farmers are from all the sugar areas and are honoured by the All Island Jamaica Cane Farmers’ Associatio­n at its annual meeting at the Coke Memorial Hall in Kingston. The farmers are presented with silver medallions that are pinned on by Governor General Clifford Campbell. 1963:and About 100 mothers

their babies attend a Christmas treat at Vauxhall School, Windward Road. This is put on for them by Jamaican Milk Products Limited. The treat is for mothers who regularly attend the baby clinic at Giltress Street, Rollington Town. Jamaican Milk Products Limited is responsibl­e for the general running of the clinic. Refreshmen­ts are served and gifts are given to mothers and babies. 1964:Government A new issue of

stock for public subscripti­on in Jamaica is announced by Donald Sangster, minister of finance. It will be used to finance public works and developmen­t in the island. Described as a tap issue, the new loan will be an unlimited issue of six per cent Local Registered Stock. A long-term loan, it will mature in 1982-86, and is being raised under the authority of Loan Law 53 of 1959, and the Local Registered Stock Law cap. 229. An official announceme­nt by the Ministry of Finance says that proceeds of this latest Government of Jamaica stock will be used “for authorised purposes,” including industrial and agricultur­al developmen­t, transport and communicat­ions.
