MoBay abuzz with Christmas shoppers

WITH JUST two days until Christmas, downtown Montego Bay is abuzz with shoppers trying to cash in on last-minute deals for the festive season.

The Second City has become a beehive of activities, with vendors found across every street corner and crowded stores and parking spaces.

Deals like two-for-one specials are the order of the day, with everything from toys and household appliances to festive decorations and food caught up in the sights and sounds of Christmas.

“While I’m seeing some deals, they are not as cheap when compared to last year,” shopper Brittany Meredith told The Gleaner. “But I am finding what I’m looking for, so for me, it’s just shopping as usual,” she said.

It seems the city is doing a good amount of business because you look inside the shops and quite a number of shoppers are inside there and the designated vending areas are filled with vendors.

OFFERINGS

Carol Jones, on the other hand, said that she has been enjoying the shopping and suspects that the crowd will get even thicker on Christmas Eve because there is a lot being offered, both in the stores and on the street.

“It’s not that busy as yet, and I suspect that the people are waiting on the last minute to finish their shopping,” she said.

Mayor of Montego Bay Homer Davis said that he was happy about the increased business that the city was enjoying this holiday.

“It seems the city is doing a good amount of business because you look inside the shops, and quite a number of shoppers are inside there, and the designated vending areas are filled with vendors,” Davis said.

“It looks good for the city. I make the appeal for this Christmas to be peaceful, loving, caring, and a very familyoriented Christmas,” he added.
