Lawrence eyes play-offs spot

WESTERN BUREAU: AARON ‘WILD Boy’ Lawrence, coach of promoted Sandals South Coast FC, said he is pleased with the level of football they have been playing since the second round and is looking to use the upcoming January transfer window to make a surge for a play-off spot.

“I’m happy that the team has been playing much better, scoring some of the goals we were missing in the first round,” said Lawrence.

Lawrence thinks that if they had shown the believe they have been displaying since the second round of the competition, they would be in a better position on the points table, as their performances against leaders Arnett Gardens and Portmore United showed signs of improvement.

“The first round, I think, we were still a bit nervous about the whole Premier League, however, since the start of the second round, the players have shown some belief, and we are fighting to be a part of the league come next season,” said Lawrence.

CLOSING THE YEAR RIGHT

Lawrence, whose aim was to not lose any game in this stage of the competition, is focused on closing the year with three points at home against Humble Lion on Thursday and will hope to push on into the New Year.

Sandals currently sit in 11th place on the 12-team table with 12 points to their credit. This puts them 10 points outside a play-off spot.

Lawrence believes his target is well within reach and is hoping to add to more weapons to his arsenal in the coming weeks.

“We have been talking to some players that we think can help us to sustain a good position and even give a push toward the play-off spot,” said Lawrence.

The former national U-17 coach said he will be looking to bring in some of the outstanding schoolboys as he thinks the way for Jamaica to go forward is to flood our young outstanding talent into the Premier League so that their development will be advanced in time for the next World Cup cycle.
