Edwin’s girls sparkle at JAAA-PUMA meet

EDWIN ALLEN High’s girls were in dominant form at yesterday’s 35th staging of the JAAA-PUMA Kirkvine Developmen­t meet.

The most outstandin­g performanc­es came in the Class Three 200 metres, where the Michael Dyke-coached girls took the top six spots. Tia Clayton led the way with a 24.94 seconds clocking – the fastest time of the day in the half-lap event. Serena Cole was second best with 25.40, while Tina Clayton, Tia’s twin sister, closed out the top three with 25.65.

Kara Grant was fastest in the Class One 800m. Grant clocked 2:23.01 ahead of the Holmwood Technical pair of Brittney Campbell, 2:23.89, and Chrissani May, 2:24.04.

World Youth representa­tive, Petersfiel­d High’s Shaquena Foote, showed good early-season form by taking the Class Two girls 800 metres in 2 19.33. Lashawn Graham of Edwin Allen was second in 2:26.32 with third going to her teammate Kagan Green in 2:27.36.

QUALITY FIELD

St Andrew High’s Janielle Josephs topped a quality field in the Class Two 200 metres after winning her heat in 25.36. World Youth representa­tive Joanne Reid of St Jago High was second overall in 25.42 with Rusea’s High’s Lashawn Haye, third overall in 25.72.

In Class Four, top honours went to Manchester High’s Shanise Ellis in 26.72, ahead of St Jago’s Asanneya Tomlin, 26.82, and Alexia Beckford of Manchester, third in 27.31.

G.C. Foster College were the leading team in the men’s open 800m, as they took the top three places. Leading the way was Evroy Johnson, 2:04.16, ahead of Savin Brown, 2:04.18, and Kemario Eldemire, 2:07.78.

St Elizabeth Technical’s Jauavney James dominated his peers in the boys’ Class One 800 metres. James captured the event in 2:02.09. Holmwood Technical’s Rushana Bailey was second in 2:03.91 while Rushana Fullerton, who competed unattached, had the third fastest time of 2:04.66.
