Captain Harvey hails hard-working H’View
AT LEAST one result in Sunday’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) mirrored the happenings in the popular English Premier League as a high-riding leader was toppled by a less-fancied opponent.
That result was the Portmore United-Harbour View clash in which the clear leaders Portmore United fell 2-1 despite taking the lead. The leaders and last year’s beaten finalist entered the game seven points ahead of their nearest rivals, Arnett Gardens. The result marked the sixth win for the former high-riding club in 21 games.
“This is the result of hard work. We have been putting in a lot of hard work from last week’s trainings sessions. The preparation was lovely. I think we just brought it forward in this game. I mean the energy, the vibe everything was just right,” a very proud captain Christopher Harvey, scorer of his team’s equalising goal, said at the end of the game.
TEAM’S MOTIVATION
The 35-year-old veteran, who was brought back to lend some experience to the youthful squad, said the players were motivated by the challenge of taking down the leaders who only last week humiliated the defending champions 5-1.
“We were just upbeat because we were playing the leaders and we knew we had to beat them so we just came in with that frame of mind.
“We were of the view that we had to treat this game like a final and we had to get a positive result,” said the central defender who headed his team level in the 71st minute to cancel out Maalique Foster’s 41st-minute opener.
From a personal standpoint, Harvey said scoring his first goal for the season and in a winning effort was really special.
“We did a lot of set plays in training and I was scoring a lot, so I knew once I got a good one I knew I would have delivered. When I saw (Kareem) Manning going for the free kick I readied myself because I knew it was mine.
“Making connection and scoring was a culmination of all the work and it is really special for me,” explained Harvey who is just four years younger than his head coach Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardner.
