Humble Lion look to ambush Portmore

- Marc Stamp/Gleaner Writer

HUMBLE LION’S coach Merron Gordon expects a tough encounter when his team travels to the Spanish Town Prison Oval today to meet hosts Portmore United in the Red Stripe Premier League.

Portmore were clipped 2-1 by Harbour View on Sunday but are still on top in the 12-team league on 44 points. Humble Lion are in ninth position on 24, following a 1-0 win against Tivoli three days ago.

“We are hoping that Sunday was a turning point in terms of winning. The team is not playing badly, but for some reason, we are not winning consistently,” Gordon told The Gleaner yesterday.

“It was a gutsy performance, nothing pretty. We were efficient in terms of carrying out our tactics. Tomorrow we will be no different in approach. Portmore are a top team, they move the ball around quickly, so we have to stop them,” he shared.

Humble Lion will hope that Craig Foster, who moved from Reno during the transfer window, can get off the mark for the Clarendon-based club. Foster is expected to get support from Damion Binns, Wolry Wolfe, Andrew Vanzie, and Stephen Williams.

Portmore’s coach Shavar Thomas will be hoping to get back to winning ways after the surprise loss. Javon East who is the league’s top marksman on 12 goals will look to continue his good form. Other key players for Portmore are Ricardo Morris, Maalique Foster and captain Ewan Grandison.

In another game of interest, Tivoli Gardens and Cavalier clash in what is expected to be a close and competitive encounter.
