Taking a leaf out of China’s book

-

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE INCREASE in crime is of concern to everyone. Recently, the American government issued a travel advisory about travelling to Jamaica. The solution to crime is not expensive. We do not need a lot of resources as people may say.

Let’s take a look at China, the country with the world’s largest population. Why is the crime rate lower than Jamaica? Here is a quote from the China Daily, ‘Homicide rate in China is as low as Switzerland, a country known as one of the safest nations, reported Southern Metropolis Daily on Thursday.

‘The homicide rate in China in 2014 is 0.7 per 100,000 residents, which is better than those in developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom or France,” said Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, during a national conference in Dalian, Liaoning province. There has been a consistent decline in severe violent crimes in China, including rape, abduction, robbery, blasts, murder and arson’.

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

The answer is simple. In China, you pay for your crime. In Jamaica. murderers do not pay for their crimes. They are hailed as community dons. Just apply the principle life for life and the crime rate will drop significantly. Start hanging, using the lethal injection, firing squad, guillotine or the electric chair. Why is the Government afraid to let murderers pay with their life for the life they take?

A man will murder another in midday, without a mask, because they know they will get away or go to jail to eat free food. It’s time to stop talking and get to action. Swing them high. Let it be clear that if you take a life, you have forfeited yours. DONALD CHAMBERS

“In China, you pay for your crime. In Jamaica, murderers do not pay for their crimes. They are hailed as community dons. Just apply the principle ‘life for life’ and the crime rate will drop significantly.”
