Kirkvine Track meet honours four stalwarts
Despite rain which affected the closing events, last weekend’s JAAA/PUMA sponsored Kirkvine Development meet was deemed a success. It was heavily attended and the early might of Edwin Allen High’s girls and St Elizabeth Technical was on display.
However, the meet was memorable for four persons who were formally recognised for their contribution to the track and field fraternity generally and specifically to the organisation of the Kirkvine meet since it was conceptualised in 1983. The four are statistician Wayne Long, curator Al Thompson, coach Raymond Graham and the Kirkvine administrator, Clive Miller.
Recognition was given to Long for his years of unstinting service to meet management through his mastery of the electronic medium which according to the organizing Committee “ensures that event results are always timely and accurate.”
‘Al’ Thompson was recognised for years of dedicated service to the JAAA/PUMA meet at Kirkvine by ensuring an attractive physical environment. ‘KC’ Graham was applauded for his outstanding achievements in track and field as national coach, educator and sports journalist. They underlined his tremendous coaching success at the national, secondary and tertiary levels in track and field.
Miller was hailed for the excellent standards maintained at the Kirkvine complex in the hosting of major sports events.
