THE JOYS OF CRAZY JIM GOLD

- Krysta Anderson/ Gleaner Writer krysta.anderson@gleanerjm.com

WHO DOES not enjoy a scoop or two of their favourite ice cream every now and then? This sweet treat has been a Sunday favourite for so many, but why limit the delight to just the weekend? Now you can indulge in the joys of premium ice cream, anytime you like from the comfort of your home with a real Jamaican brand.

Sounds crazy, right? Well, Crazy Jim isn’t clowning around, creating not one, not two, but 10 premium gold flavours guaranteed to make new and exciting memories on your taste buds. Founded in 1980, Crazy Jim has spent 37 years providing the creamy goodness for the young and young at heart.

But they wanted to up the ante, which is where Crazy Jim Gold comes in.

The concept, according to Marketing Manager Nicholas Hall, came out of the desire to create a premium line that was not only unique to the company, but to Jamaica as well. “Over the years, we have always been importing premium ice cream because we are a distributor. But we have the means and the resources to produce the same product at a high quality, so we made a decision to do a premium line ourselves,” he explained to Food.

Available in all major retail stores by late February, Food was given the inside scoop on the golden rush, as the tag -team duo of Hall and Leticia Williams of quality control whipped up a few sundaes for our tasting pleasure.

Their line of frozen desserts will boast the treasured traditions of strawberry, vanilla, rum and raisin, home-made chocolate, and cookies and cream.

But it will also explore the exotic tropical flavours of coconut, coffee, pistachio, almond, apple vodka, and please pirate — a blend of coffee and rum cream. “We started out with 10, but we’re planning to expand,” says Hall. “We’re always trying new flavours, even looking into sorbet and dairy free products — the possibilities are endless.” The brand is much more refined in taste and will definitely have you pining for more!
