Hague expected to be bigger, better
MORE THAN 4,000 patrons are expected to descend upon the Hague Show Ground in Trelawny this Ash Wednesday, February 14, for the highly anticipated 63rd staging of The Hague Agricultural & Industrial Show.
The annual signature farming and trade show, which is organised by the Trelawny Association of Branch Societies of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, is touted to be the biggest one yet as evidenced by this year’s theme: ‘For sustainable livelihood, restore the love for agriculture through climate-smart practices’.
This means a jam-packed day of wholesome entertainment and activities for the entire family, which kicks off at 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
“There will be a renewed focus this year on highlighting the work of our farmers, because the Hague Show prides itself as the premier event to showcase agricultural crops and livestock in a fun and familyfriendly atmosphere,” said Melissa Harper, event coordinator.
ACTIVITIES
The many activities planned for the day will include a horticulture show and flowers village showcase, livestock exhibitions, the sashing of Miss Trelawny Farm Queen 2018 and a SDC Business Village, comprising over 10 booths dedicated to on-the-spot business services.
“We also will be extending the kiddies’ area to allow for more rides and attractions as well as tasty treats for the young and young at heart. We will have a food court with over a dozen food vendors and three bars, a farmers’ market, and the 4-H displays showcasing the work of students, among various other farmers’ contests and competitions to include the crowning of champion farmer,” Harper explained.
“So this year promises more interactions so that persons can learn about what is happening within the livestock sector and how they can get into the farming industry locally,” she added.
Dancehall entertainer Lex will be headlining this year’s live entertainment alongside the Kingston Rock music group, where there will be tons of prizes, surprises, and giveaways. New to the event will be the HiPro-sponsored gospel segment, featuring Jabez and Anishca Judah.
“Based on the package that we are offering, the show will, no doubt, attract people who are interested in agriculture and those who are looking for that wholesome family entertainment. It will be the perfect opportunity for everyone to come out and see what is happening in agriculture, to get ideas, and new techniques and practices,” Harper outlined.
“So a clean and fun family atmosphere, offering rides and attraction for the entire family. The Hague Agricultural Show will have enough to keep you engaged and entertain for the entire day,” she added.
This year’s sponsors include the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries, Hi-Pro, Social Development Commission, T. Geddes Grant, Interlinc Communications, H&L Agro, Nutramix, Ag Chem, and Greenwood Hardware.
