6on benefits of being SINGLE Valentine’s Day

- Mickella Anderson YOUTHLINK WRITER

1 Your wallet won’t suffer in the name of love: Finding the right gift for bae on one of the most important days on the calendar for lovers can be a costly task, especially if he/she is the fussy type, or if you want to make a lasting impression. When there is no bae, on the other hand, your wallet will be one of the few untouched and you’ll still have money when the day is over, unlike many.

2 You don’t have to stress about pulling off a big gesture:

Planning that special Valentine’s Day dinner, where red balloons fall from the ceiling at bae’s entrance and Ed Sheeran’s Perfect plays on cue, is one stress that singles never have to take on. Getting everything absolutely perfect by the nanosecond can be a huge undertaking and so, if there is no bae in the picture, your Valentine’s Day can be stress-free.

3 You get to avoid being let down: When there is no bae, there are no expectations of bae and no need to take a hard hit when these expectations aren’t met. The let-down can occur either in bae’s gift being lackluster in comparison to your grand gesture, or just in feeling plain old awkward after trying everything. It’s simple – no bae, no let-down.

4 Your favourite candy goes on sale: That super-sized bar of Cadbury fruit & nut or that Hershey’s milk chocolate you’ve been eyeing is now within reach as Valentine’s Day, aka ‘chocolate day’, calls for sales galore! When you’re single, all that chocolatey goodness is for you alone; no having to give away the top half with all the fruits, or that special piece you’ve been saving for last.

5 You get to wear red and white just because: There are many customs that are specific to Valentine’s Day and wearing red and white is one of them. While lovers stress over the right outfit to impress each other or find the right ‘look’, you can wear your red and white how you like it and just for the sake of wearing it. Especially if your school allows you to take a break from the boring uniform or regular accessories (though, this year, school will be on holiday), being single on Valentine’s Day means you get to participate in all the fun stuff without the extra baggage.

6 You can meet someone new on Valentine’s Day: Love is in the air on this special day, so if you’re single and searching, Valentine’s Day can work in your favour when it comes to finding a potential bae. An admirer may finally work up the courage to approach you, or similarly, on Cupid’s Day you may finally find the confidence to approach that guy/girl you’ve liked for some time.
