Fireworks expected at Corporate Area Meet
THE TWO-DAY Anthrick Corporate Area Meet gets under way at the National Stadium today.
There should be a lot of fireworks in this second leg of the Digicel Grand Prix series as the top two boys teams in the country– Calabar High and Kingston College – are expected to field their best teams as they warm up for next month’s ISSA Boys and Girls’ Championships.
It should also be close going among the girls, but following their win a year ago, the vastly improved Excelsior High will start favourites to come out on top over The Queen’s School, Wolmer’s Girls, and Immaculate High.
Twelve finals will be contested today, six on the track and six in the field, with the Class One girls ‘ 1500 metres at 9 a.m. the first track event final.
After a dominant season so far, defending Boys’ champions Calabar will be hoping to qualify as many athletes as possible in a bid to take home the $1 million top prize at the G.C. Foster Classics on Saturday, March 10.

“We are coming out to give of our best as this is good preparation for us going into Champs and all of our top athletes will be competing at the meet,” said Michael Clarke, head coach of Calabar.
IAAF Under-18 110m champion De’Jour Russell will lead a strong squad in the hurdles. Michael Stephens, Christopher Taylor, Anthony Carpenter, Rosean Young and Malik James King are the other top Class One athletes.
Kingston College starred at the Milo Western Relays a week ago and will be look ing to carr y that good form into this meet. Dashawn Morris, Tyreke Bryan, Nathaniel Bann, Wayne Pinnock and Shaquille Lowe will be hoping to challenge Calabar strongly in the Class One events.
Excelsior’s girls are strong all round and should walk away with top prize among the females with Shantae Foreman in the Class Three high jump and Ackera Nugent in the Class Two 100m hurdles two of their top stars.
