MILE GULLY, COMFORT LEAD MANCHESTER MAJOR LEAGUE

After three rounds, Mile Gully and Comfort share the lead atop the standings on seven points each in the Mikail Phillips Manchester Football Associatio­n’s Major League. Alligator Pond and Los Perfectos share third and fourth respective­ly on six points. The next three teams – Technical Strikers, Old England, and Villa United – are yet to get a point after two games.

Los Perfectos, who opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Alligator Pond, were the biggest winners of the last round after smashing Villa United 6-0 at Brooks Park. Christophe­r Campbell and Hayden Rhoden netted two goals each, while there was one apiece from Musa Lee Dunkley and Ray Campbell.

Mile Gully’s Alex Cummings netted the first hat trick of the season in his team’s 4-1 win over Old England. Joneer Lewis’ 77th minute strike gave Comfort a 1-0 win over Technical Strikers.

ST ELIZABETH TEAMS SHINE IN CONFED SUPER LEAGUE

Three of the four participan­ts from St Elizabeth in this year’s Charley’s/JB Rum South Central Confed Super League scored wins in last weekend’s seventh round.

St Bess FC, the best placed of the quartet, dismantled Rivoli of St Catherine 2-0 at the Lacovia Sports Complex. The goals came in the second half courtesy of Naquain Brown (from a 63rd minute penalty) and Oshane Staple (66th).

Away at Turner’s Oval in Clarendon, Treasure Beach had a 1-0 win over Moores FC, courtesy of a 49th-minute strike by Jhavon Williams. The third win was achieved when Holland Police Youth Club, at home, enjoyed a 1-0 win over Dunbeholde­n of St Catherine. Ockar Barnes was the scorer in the 52nd minute. The fourth St Elizabeth contenders, Blackstars FC, journeyed to the Marlie Sports Complex to earn a 0-0 draw against Old Harbour FC.

In another significan­t result, Greenvale Academy were the lone Manchester team to record a win, brushing off Sporting Central Academy FC 3-1. Greenvale’s win was anchored by a double strike from Maxwell Robinson and the game opener from Kemar Ricketts (26th). Kwesi Watts scored Sporting’s lone strike in the 48th minute.

ST ELIZABETH MAJOR LEAGUE ROUND UP

Two matches are scheduled this weekend in the St Elizabeth Major League. Today, New Holland host Goshen, and tomorrow, Super Action and Tafari Lions clash at Mountainsi­de.

In other matches, Appleton Strickers edged Middle Quarters Police Youth Club 1-0 and Tafari Lions got past New Holland FC 2-1. There were two drawn matches, in which newcomers Ballers FC from the Northampto­n area drew 2-2 with Super Action while Fullerswoo­d and Goshen ended 1-1.

BIG DOMINO CLASHES IN PORTMORE

Old Harbour United (16 points) put their 100 per cent-win record on the line as they travel to Portmore to take on hosts Passagefor­t United in one of six games in Sunday’s fixtures in the Jamaica Domino Federation/COK/Dragon Stout Portmore/ St Catherine Domino League.

In another big game, fourth-placed Links United (12 points) are at home at Bayside and take on seasoned campaigner­s Eradicatio­n.

Old Harbour, who notched their fourth win in a row last Sunday, in a 300-275 victory over Garveymead­e, are undefeated, while Links United have lost a game and will need a win to stay close to the lead pack with a win over Eradicatio­n. Another undefeated team, Frasziers Whip (16 points), fresh from a 300-237 demolition of Chedwin Strikers, will battle Correction­al Services at Frazsiers Content. In other games, Chedwin Strikers play Braeton All Stars, Naggo Head take on Stepover, and Garveymead­e entertain Masterpiec­e.

SOCCER SAINTS TOP CHARLTON ACADEMY’S FOOTBALL

Soccer Saints won the third staging of Charlton’s Academy’s six-a-side one-day football tournament in memory of Sydney ‘Syd’ Bartlett after they defeated North Banks 4-2 in an exciting final at Big Park.

Meanwhile, Charlton’s Academy finished third and Ada Manufactur­ing placed fourth. Sponsors were Cals Manufactur­ing, Excelsior, Big Jo (Coldfield Ltd), Plan-tastik Profession­als, Cybernet Cafe; and Jamaica Public Service.
