Harrison pleased with KC signs
Harrison encouraged by KC’s showing at Corporate Area Champs
DESPITE FINISHING second in the points standing behind arch-rivals Calabar High School, Neil Harrison, the head coach of Kingston College’s track and field team, is hoping to spring some elements of surprise at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championship this year after seeing some pleasing signs from the purples at the Digicel Anthrick Corporate Area Championships at the National Stadium over the past two days.
“This team seems to be rising to the occasion step by step and you never know and they could spring some element of surprise because each track meet, you see some different signs,” Harrison said.
Kingston College tallied 377 points. However, the boys from Red Hills road scored more than a hundred points more with 481 to win the boys section of the second leg of the Digicel Grand Prix series.
Though his team is the defending champions, Harrison said his objective coming into the meet was to assess his boys.
“We came with an intention to put people into different aspects where we figured we need and where we need to see some work,” Harrison said.
“There are some areas you would want to pay special attention coming into this meet because the ultimate is Champs and whatever happens in this meet gives you an indication of where you are and where you want to go.”
‘IT’S A GOOD LOOK’
When asked whether he was surprised by performances in any par ticular area, this is how he responded: “It is a good look in some areas. There are others, which I would prefer not to name.”
One of the performances Harrison was pleased about was from his captain, Dashawn Morris, who ran under 46 seconds for the first time.
Morris ran 45.93 to finish second to Calabar’s Christopher Taylor, who stopped the clock at 45.84 seconds.
“I know it ’s a surprise to some people but not to me because I told him he would run 45 today [yesterday] and he said “Coach, are you serious?” and I said if you follow my instruc tions it will become a realit y. He is a ver y hard worker and he is a very disciplined athlete,” Harrison said.
