Dacres disregards record throw
NATIONAL DISCUS record holder, Fedrick Dacres, has disregarded his recent record-breaking effort after it was revealed that the weight of the disc used was slightly lower than the required 2kg. Dacres threw 69.83 metres at the King of Ring development meet at Excelsior High School last weekend.
It bettered the former Calabar High School standout’s mark of 68.88m, which he did at the same meet last year. But even before the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association made any attempts to ratify the record, Dacres took to social media to declare that the mark he recorded last year stands as the national record.
“The disc I used on the weekend is 1.998 Kg so [the disparity] is really insignificant. We don’t want anything like that under our name so it is better I just call it and say let’s try again,” Dacres said yesterday. “After the meet they [meet officials] called and told us that it was a little bit off.”
THIRD-BEST DISTANCE
Dacres’ 68.88m mark was the third-best distance recorded last season and the Jamaican was predicted to finish among the medals at the IAAF World Championship in London. He, however, finished fourth.
Dacres noted that also disregarded last week’s mark because he is confident that he can repeat the performance.
“I am very confident that I can throw it, and I want to do it again to actually show that it was real,” Dacres said.
