Ricky Ricardo to surprise

- Elton Tucker/ Assistant Editor – Sports

DINNER BY SEVEN should give Sunrise-6 players a flying start in tomorrow’s opening event of the nine-race programme.

Seven will face the starter in the 1000 metres straight race for $450,000 claimers, with the selection down a level after a promising run in the higher claiming group. DINNER BY SEVEN was overtaken late in a 1300 metres race f or $550,000 claimers, and with the distance significantly reduced, the six-year-old mare should be able to hold her rivals at bay in the rush to the line.

RICHIE’S PIK and SHELLIAN GREY will provide all the answers in Race Two. The last time the two faced each other on November 25 last year, RICHIE’S PIK finished fourth by 14 lengths, while SHELLIAN GREY was a further five lengths behind winner Moneyneversleep in a 1600 metres race. RICHIE’S PIK is more suited to this 1820 metres distance and should make no mistake.

Anthony Nunes’ STRIKE IT LUCKY has been knocking at the door since the start of the year, finishing second on three consecutive occasions. The four-year-old filly went closest on Ash Wednesday when she was touched off at the line by Senor Kwanzi. That was over 1820 metres, and now with the distance dropped to 1400 metres, STRIKE IT LUCKY is expected to lead all way with stable jockey Dick Cardenas aboard.

Newcomer MADAM SECRETARY is working very well for trainer Wayne DaCosta, but the experienced RICKY RICARDO from the same stable is the firm selection for Race Four over 1100 metres. The trainer has obtained the ser vices of former champion jockey Dane Nelson to ride this well-bred (Stormcraft-My Friend Lucy) three-year-old gelding who has not placed better than fourth in eight starts, and tomorrow should be vastly different. RICKY RICARDO has been stepped up at exercise since placing fourth to El Profesor on Februar y 17. Last Saturday, he exercised neck and neck with Rambunctious Links. The latter was installed favourite to win a non-winners of three race on Wednesday and ran very well. Therefore, RICKY RICARDO is one to watch.

The last two races in the Sunrise-6 should be won by the very fit and down-alevel DIFERENTGENERATION and STORMING FLYER.
