JDA seeks $3m for Caribbean Championship

WINSTON FERGUSON, president of the Jamaica Darts Association (JDA), is calling on corporate Jamaica to assist in helping the body to raise $3 million to participate in the Caribbean Darts Association Championship later this year.

The team intends to travel to Trinidad and Tobago for the event, which runs from July 6-16.

“What we are looking at is about $3 million to make the trip to the Caribbean Darts Championship. We have been doing some fundraising for the team. We are still not there yet and appealing to corporate Jamaica for assistance,” Ferguson told The Gleaner recently.

“The players are raring to go. We have come close on some occasions and won six times. We are preparing to win this time around, after finishing fifth two years ago,” he said.

“We won the Caribbean Darts Championship six times. We won it the l ast time i n 1998. We finished fifth in 2016. We have a good team of committed players who need to do the hard work, but I strongly believe that we can win,” he confidently said.

“We have structured camps on weekends as we prepare for the championship. You have players focusing on different drills in order to help the players i n preparation,” Ferguson added.

The JDA has selected the players based on a ranking system.

Men’s team – Mark Birthwright, Damion Cheese, Hubert Brown, Lynford Jonas, Winston Ferguson, Albert Bailey, Marco Walters and Anthony Johnson.

Women’s team – Jennifer Reid, Mernel Brown, Novlett Bewr y, Norma Bowen, Carol Cheese, Princess Brown and Charlene Cowan.

Under-18 team – Kailya Cheese, Jaheim Chin, Donte Burchell, Jahmari Wright and Mickail Esson.
