Gordon aims to rebuild JABA’s image
NEW JAMAICA Basketball Association (JABA) president Paulton Gordon is looking to rebuild the sport, especially with the resumption of the league last month following an absence of four years.
Gordon defeated Major Clifton Lumsden by 14 to11 votes at the association’s annual general meeting at the Jamaica Olympic Association headquarters last Sunday.
“We have to rebuild the image of basketball in Jamaica, that is a priority. To do that we have to look at our administration and consistent flow of information. We have to look at our head office. Administration and administration processes are key to us moving the sport forward,” said Gordon, who served as second vice-president in the previous administration.
EXCITING PLANS
With regards to the National Basketball League (NBA), which resumed in February, Gordon said he has plans for a “substantial” competition later this year.
“The league is on its way. We are confident that we can complete the league and will be adding some excitement with entertainment at the games in addition to the quality basketball that is being played. We want to see the l eague through,” he added.
“We want to add a more substantial league, starting in November. I’m humbled by the support essentially, the team was able to pull through,” he said about his victory.
Twenty-five members were registered to cast their votes at the meeting comprising affiliates of JABA. The other members of the JABA executive are Galton Taylor – first vice -president; Trudy-Anne Riley – second vicepresident; Marland Nattie – third vice-president; Kevin Alexander – treasurer; Jason Moses – assistant treasurer; and Pauline Richards – general secretary.
