1961:
The 1961-62 session of the Legislature opens with the traditional ceremonies, change in detail only by the fact that the official opening is taking place for the first time within Gordon House instead of Headquarters House. There is the usual colour of the scarlet robes of the judges of the High Court, the ecclesiastic attire of the Lord Bishop of Jamaica, the black and gold robes of the speaker, the Zouave uniforms of the military band, the brilliant ribbons of Royal Orders, the dresses of the women, the clerks in wig and gowns, the attorney general and other legal personalities in wig and gowns and gentlemen in morning attire. There is the usual procession of members of the House of Representatives up Duke Street. 1983:
Mrs Edward Seaga is presented with the first Humanitarian Service Award by the United States Agency for International Development and Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Assistance for her out– standing contribution towards the welfare of children. She is presented with the award by David Guyer, president of the Save the Children Foundation. The citation lauds Mrs Seaga for her “deep dedication and outstanding commitment to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of the children of Jamaica”. Mrs Seaga in her reply expresses gratitude to the organisations for the award.
1993:
Junior athletes will be seeking places on Jamaica’s team to next month’s Carifta Games to be held i n Martinique when the 1993 Carifta Trials get underway at the National Stadium this Saturday, March 13, 1993, at 9 a.m.
