Hagley Park Road to be widened
Overhead bridge to go up at Three Miles
WORK HAS begun to remedy the traffic congestion motorists face during rush hour along Hagley Park Road in St Andrew.
That corridor currently accommodates two lanes of traffic, but eventually, will be expanded to four. As a result, National Works Agency (NWA) Communications Manager Stephen Shaw says that over an 18-month period, motorists should expect interruptions to regular vehicular traffic flow along Hagley Park Road from Half-Way Tree to Three Miles.
Approximately US$56 million has been earmarked for the project.
“We intend to put up a multilayer bridge in the Three Miles area. In order to finalise the design for that structure, we are doing technical work, which involves the boring of holes,” Shaw disclosed. “The work in this initial stage is to see what we need to do i n respect of the final design of the bridge. That initial work will last one month, but we expect the overall project to finish in 18 months,” he told The Gleaner yesterday.
Shaw advised motorists to be on the look-out because the preliminar y works now i n progress will have some impact on the movement of vehicular traffic throughout the area at some point.
“Of course, we will keep the public informed as best as we can so that persons have enough information to use as the basis for whatever decisions are necessary for them to go about their business. This is a part of the congestion management programme that the Government and the NWA have embarked on,” Shaw said.
