JABA president extends olive branch

- Livingston Scott/ Gleaner Writer

NEW JAMAICA Basketball Association (JABA) president, Paulton Gordon, has reached out to members of Major Lumsden team, his opponent for the JABA presidency, to be a part of his administration.

Gordon stated that he believes some members of that team still have an invaluable contribution to make to the sport locally, and wants to keep them motivated and contributing..

"We want Simone Edwards to be i nvolved as part of the Women's Commission and there are a couple other persons, who ran on the (Major Lumsden) slate that we are look ing at to be committee members, as the committee is an extension of the board. The Major is also strong on constitution and certain governance issue, so I am going to invite him to be a part of the governance and administrative commission," Gordon said.

STILL IN DISCUSSIONS

"But because I haven't discussed it with my board, because my first board meeting is tonight (last night) and we don't want to call any additional names. We want to have that discussion with t he board, identify the persons we have targeted and reach out to them," he added.

According to Gordon the members of his team will form the core of his administration, however, he noted that he has worked with members of the other team prior to the elections and has found their knowledge and expertise invaluable and hence his reason for drawing on some of that experience for his administrative body.

"I have my core board and I will have my committee members. But I have spoken to a couple of them on the Lumsden slate that we want to be a part of that.

We have two that we have looked at already. There are four slots but I want to offer two of those slots to persons on the slate.

But I want to have a wholesome discussion with the board and take it from there. I had a brief discussion with him (Lumsden) after the elections, but I haven't spoken to him since," he said.Meanwhile, at the administration's first board meeting last night, Gordon said the aim was to l ook at the processes, administration and current programmes and how they can maintain and improve them."

So we will look at how we can have the manpower and the processes in place to ensure the current activities are manned and that they are functioning how they ought to," he said.
