Shooting prodigy Pinchin to host classes for juniors today

SEVERAL JUNIORS will take shooting lessons from Jamaicabor­n American citizen Joseph Pinchin, who is in the island as a guest of the Jamaica Skeet Club. The lessons are scheduled for today at the club in Portmore.

The juniors are coming off last week’s inaugural Tastee Interschoo­l Golf Challenge, where Hillel topped the school competitio­n and Peter Mahfood bagged his first shoot ahead of Danzell Knight.

Khaleel Azan, national shooting coach and coach of the junior programme, said:

“It is very good that Joseph Pinchin is coming here to show our juniors some tricks of the trade. Already, several juniors have signed up for lessons with him and we expect improvemen­ts in their game going forward.”

Pinchin was born in Jamaica on February 27, 2001. He moved to the United States with his parents in that same year and has since become an American citizen.

MULTISPORT TALENT

He became involved in the shooting sports at the age of eleven when, after achieving his black belt in Kung Fu, he was looking for another sport to compete i n. With his dad’s encouragem­ent, he began participat­ing in Trap at the local youth programme at Markham Park , Florida, under the mentorship of Champion Joe Loitz.

Next followed Quail Creek Plantation’s Scholastic Clay Target Programme Young Guns in 2013, where he also competes in the discipline­s of Trap and Skeet, but, has found his real love in Sporting Clays.

In 2016, Joseph decided that he wanted to pursue his passion for sporting clays He has had the honour of winning both state, regional and national titles and is a nine-time All American, while learning to compete under pressure.

Pinchin will also be here for tomorrow’s NCB Capital Markets Sporting Clays Open, which is set to take place at the Woodleigh Shooting Range in Clarendon. National
