THE POLICE’S Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) has confirmed that t wo persons were fatally shot i n separate incidents within the zone of special operations (ZOSO) in Denham Town yesterday.

The identities of the dead men have not been revealed.

However, CCU head, Inspector Dahlia Garrick, said the earlymorning shootings, which took place on Oxford Street and Pink Lane, were gang related.

Yesterday’s killings come days after 21-year-old Dillan Martin of Golden Heights, Kingston 14, was gunned down on Wednesday night within the zone.

Martin received several gunshots to the head and was pronounced dead at hospital. A second man, who was shot in his right foot, was admitted in stable condition.

“We’re always concerned about any incident of crime, especially violent crime, which i ncludes murder, but we are committed to the task at hand,” said Garrick.

“Yes, there have been some challenges, but we’re committed to curtailing the activities of criminality and to bringing under control this gang feud that is happening in the area,” she added.

Denham Town was declared the second ZOSO by Prime Minister Andrew Holness on October 17, last year, in a bid to rid the area of what he described as rampant criminality and ongoing gang warfare.

The House of Representatives approved a 60-day extension for the zone on February 14.

ZOSO i n Denham Town has transitioned into its build phase where members of the Jamaica Defence Force have repor tedly pulled out of the community.
