Former Titchfield thrower loving life at Calabar
FORMER TITCHFIELD thrower Kai Chang will be donning the colours of Calabar for the first time, when he competes in the Class One discus and shot put at the ISSA/GraceKennedy
Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium this week.
A year ago, Chang finished seventh in the Class
One discus event, with a throw of 47.07 metres, but has shown big improvements in his first season at Calabar, having flung the disc over 60 metres already.
Additionally, Chang has beaten big favourite, Roje Stone of St Jago once this season, while winning at the Carifta Trials with a throw of 58.33 metres, relegating the Champs favourite into second place with 58.04 metres.
Chang noted that he is enjoying life at his new school and has credited an innovative approach to his training regimen for his improvement.
“I am able to do more work in the gym, and watching a lot of videos along with good training partners has all helped me to improve with my training,” said Chang. “I am a bit nervous, but this will not affect me as my relationship with my teammates is very good and we motivate each other and I am definitely aiming for a medal and a throw of over 65 metres.”
The boys’ Class One discus prelims were scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today, with the final set for tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. The shot put prelims will take place on Friday at 8:35 a.m. , with the finals listed to start on Saturday at 4:50 p.m.
