Food for thought ...

- FABIAN LEWIS

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT SEEMS that France has moved to change its legal age of sexual consent to 15, following two recent high-profile cases of men accused of having sex with 11year-old girls.

Under the current French legislation, sex with individuals under the age of 15 is illegal only if the act was forced.

With t he recent cases in Jamaica involving men of the cloth, together with the fact that children as young as nine years of age are being sexually active, should we be looking at reducing the consensual age?

The new law is to be presented to France’s Cabinet soon.
