1950: Plans are afoot for a Colonial and Caribbean Trade and Industrial exhibition and fair to be held in Jamaica in March 1952. The sponsors of the exhibition aim to bring the islands of the Caribbean in line with other progressive countries. To this end, they plan to use up the large amount of raw materials at their command to exploit avenues for development of existing industries and to compete with European markets. Representatives will be sent on trade missions to Great Britain, Canada, the United States, the West Indies, and South and Central America, The Gleaner is informed. “It is expected that the scheme will provide employment f or 5,000 Jamaicans,” one of the sponsors says: The office of the promoters is situated at 25 West Parade.

1974: A cheque for $1,500 is presented to Mrs Michael Manley at Jamaica House to help with the maintenance of the Jamaica House Basic School. The cheque is donated by the Bata Shoe Company and presented by General Manager, Reginald Marshall, who says that Jamaica needs more schools such as the Jamaica House Basic School. Everyone had to chip in to make this possible, he emphasises, and it is for this reason that his company makes the contribution. After the presentation, Marshall, accompanied by the Public Relations Officer at Bata Neville Smar t is taken on a tour of the school by Mrs Manley.
