Simply SHENSEEA
THIS ARTISTE certainly threw a double six on the ‘loodi’ board of her musical career! In fewer than two years, she has become the face of corporate Jamaica, the voice behind hot collaborations with major artistes, and the talent taking on a slew of tours and international appearances. Shenseea is her name and when she last visited
Youthlink, she spoke about her life, growing up, and many of the aspirations she had achieved. This time around, we get a little more candid with the now selfproclaimed ‘Dancehall Goddess’!
Youthlink: What’s your favourite movie?
Shenseea: My favourite movie is The Fast and The Furious from 5 going onwards and Apocalypto.
What’s your favourite thing to do when you catch a break and have some spare time?
Shenseea: I love to go swimming and chilling with my son.
What’s your favourite meal to prepare?
Shenseea: Stew chicken!
What’s your favourite colour to wear?
Shenseea: Definitely white.
Which song, not done by you, are you currently obsessed with?
Shenseea: IG Girls by Aidonia.
What’s your go-to dance move at a party?
Shenseea: Gas!
What were your favourite subjects in high school?
Shenseea: I would say English and history.
Which Jamaican food, apart from stewed chicken, do you miss most when you’re on tour, especially in European countries?
Shenseea: It varies really. Sometimes I miss curry chicken and white rice, and sometimes I miss ackee and saltfish and, of course, the stew chicken (laughs)! I just miss Jamaican food and spices overall when I’m away from my country.
How do you handle social media trolls and gossip?
Shenseea: Simple. I embrace it. Also, for me, I love to be a topic, whether positively or negatively. My self-esteem is very high and I believe nothing other than what I KNOW about myself, so cyberbullying does not bother me as long as they are talking (laughs)!
Which one of your songs is your favourite to perform and why?
Shenseea: I love to perform Nothing Dem Nuh
Have Ova Me. I just love to hear when the audience, especially the females, is singing word for word in that song. As females, we tend to bring each other down, and when I perform that track it fees like unity is among us.
