Penwood student peacemaker stabbed

AN INCIDENT at Penwood High School in Kingston yesterday has left one student battling for his life, while the perpetrator is on the run and is being sought by the police.

Inspector Sean March confirmed the incident.

March told The Gleaner that a 16-year-old student was rushed to Kingston Public Hospital after receiving stab wounds to the chest.

“There was indeed a stabbing incident at the school. The injured student has been taken to the hospital, where he was admitted and is being treated,” March said.

The school’s principal, when contacted, said that she was not prepared to speak on the matter.

It is understood that about 2 p.m., a fight developed between two male students.

MOTHER SHOCKED

Reports are that the injured student tried to stop the fracas when one of the students produced a knife which he used to stab the peacemaker.

Mother of the injured boy, Dionne Rennie, expressed surprise that an incident in which her son had no dealings except to pacify it almost cost his life.

“I am really upset because he was not involved in the fight. He went to part the fight and this is the result for wanting peace,” Rennie said.

“How can a student be i n school with a knife?” she asked.
