TG’s Edwards wary of Waterhouse
Jackie Bell KO semis on at Constant Spring
TIVOLI GARDENS coach Omar Edwards says he is war y of Waterhouse’s counter-attacking style as the two teams prepare to square off in the semi-finals of the KSAFA/Jamaica National/Jackie Bell KO competition at the Constant Spring Complex starting at 6:30 p.m. today.
In the other semi-final, Arnett Gardens take on Harbour View in another all-Premier League matchup at 8:30 p.m.
Edwards said that his experience in watching and playing against Waterhouse this season has taught him a few things about Donovan Duckie’s side, and they are hoping to exploit what they know of them.
“We have played Waterhouse a couple of times and we have observed their playing style. They have a ver y compact midfield and they play most of the games. I have watched, at low or medium press games, and when you play a low or medium press game, then you want to play on the counter, so we will be very mindful of that come tomorrow,” Edwards said yesterday.
“They are very organised defensively, but we have found some areas on the flanks that we are looking to exploit. We are in the semi-finals of the Jackie Bell and our game has been improving match after match and hence that has given us some confidence,”he said.
CONFIDENT
Edwards also takes confidence from their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) meetings with the Drewsland-based club this season.
“We played them i n the Premier League, and we have matched up quite well, so we are confident. We are definitely looking to win and move on and get one step closer to retaining our title,” he added.
A Tivoli win will depend on the in-form Junior McGregor, André Moulton, Colorado Murray, Elton Thompson, and veteran Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson. Waterhouse, on the other hand, will l ook to topscorer Kemar Beckford, Cordel Benbow, Keithy Simpson, Gary McIntosh, and André McFarlane to lead them to victory.
In the other semi-final, Jerome Waite’s Arnett Gardens will start favourites against Ricardo Gardner’s Harbour View, a team which finished below them in the preliminar y round of the RSPL. Arnett will look to Marvin Morgan, Fabian Reid, Renae Lloyd, and Kenneil Hyde to achieve vic tor y, while Harbour View’s bid f or an upset victory will rest on the shoulders of experienced players like Evan Taylor and Nicholas Beckett, and top young talent Peter
Lee Vassell.
